This is a particularly special song to us for several reasons. It is one of the very first songs we ever wrote together (way back in 2012) and as such it is the oldest track to appear on the album.
It has also been a fan favourite for a long time, so we were keen to give it another lease of life, with a new arrangement and the addition of a string section.
The vocals, written by our old singer Simon Monaghan, are a dark narrative detailing his experiences witnessing domestic abuse as a child. Simon recorded a version of the song with us when he was in the band, which we released as part of our 2014 EP ‘No Means Yes’.
Due to the deeply personal nature of the song, Simon was initially reluctant for us to re-record the track, but in a testament to his enduring support since leaving the band, he gave us his blessing, for which we are very grateful.
As the final single from our album Chemical Friends, this release also signals the end of a significant chapter for Puppet Rebellion. But fear not – work has already begun on our second album and we will have some new music for you next year!
